7. Digital Security
We are all aware that our computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones are at risk from malicious software, also known as malware. Malware it is software that is used to compromise computer functions, steal data, bypass controls or otherwise harm the computer that hosts it. We should be safe being online and take responsibility to our online information.
When going online one can be in danger without being aware of many forms of hazards which includes, Scams, identity theft, stalking, harassment and cyber-bullying are just some of the security issues the general public is experiencing.
To stay safe online we can follow the following procedures just as guidelines or tips to be used:
- Install a firewall. A firewall is a great line of defense against cyber-attacks. Although most operating systems come with a firewall, you might want to consider installing service which has a much better firewall than the one that comes built into your operating system
- Try not to post your personal information such as your address online.
- Don't meet up with people you've met online , keeping mind that one everyone online is who they say they are.
- Protecting yourself and your data on social media platforms
- If you use social networking sites – for instance, Facebook – change your account security settings to limit who can see your profile information. Never update your status with information that you wouldn’t want to be made public.
